The Republic of Sudan

 

Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Sudan

 

The Republic of Sudan recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 28, 1991. Diplomatic relations with the Republic of Sudan were established on July 25, 1992.

 

The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan has been functioning in Baku since 1993. Although the work of the Embassy was suspended in 1999 due to financial difficulties, it resumed its activities in September 2013.

  

By the Order No. 1795 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 26, 2011 the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Egypt was appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Sudan, with a residence in Cairo.

 

By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 3080, dated July 12, 2017, Tarik Hamza Zeynalabdin was appointed as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Sudan.

 

The Republic of Azerbaijan pays special importance to the development of relations with Arab countries, especially with the Republic of Sudan, with which the Republic of Azerbaijan is connected by religious and cultural roots. There are wide opportunities for the development of mutual relationships in various fields. Effective cooperation exists between Azerbaijan and Sudan within the UN, OIC, NAM, and other international organizations.

 

On September 1, 2014, the foreign relations committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Sudan recognized the massacre committed by the Armenian armed forces against the civilian population of Azerbaijan in the city of Khojaly in February 1992 as an act of genocide and a crime against humanity.

 

Mutual visits of the Heads of the States

- A delegation led by the Chairman of the Sovereign Transitional Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman, visited Azerbaijan as part of the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku on October 24-26, 2019.

 

Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs

- On May 10-11, 2012, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan Ali Ahmed Karti paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

- On March 17-19, 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan Ali Ahmed Karti paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

- On April 6, 2018, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan Mohammad Idrisi visited Azerbaijan to participate in the Interim Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku.

- On March 2, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan Mr. Ali Al-Sadiq Ali visited our country.

 

Inter-parliamentary relations

- On September 20–21, 2018, a parliamentary delegation headed by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Sudan, Ibrahim Ahmed Omar, visited Azerbaijan in order to participate in the events held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
