Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab Republic of Egypt
The Arab Republic of Egypt recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 26th of December 1991.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 27th of March 1992. The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Baku has been operating since April 1993, and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Cairo has been active since January 1994.
On the 2nd of November 2016, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, paid an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. On the 24th to the 26th of October 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukri, visited Azerbaijan to participate in the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). On the 30th of September 2016, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received Mr Mohamed Orabi, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian Parliament and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who participated in the 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed fifty documents on co-operation in various fields.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The Working Group for Azerbaijani-Egyptian Inter-Parliamentary Relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The group is chaired by Mammadov Jeyhun Valeh.

Joint Commission
On the 3rd of October 2002, the Joint Commission on Intergovernmental Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab Republic of Egypt was established.
