Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of the Gambia

 

A protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries was signed on the 11th of November 1994.

On the 7th to the 8th of June 2018, a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Gambia, Ousainou Darboe, and the Minister of Labour and Infrastructure of the Gambia, Bai Lamin Jobe, visited our country. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Mr Mamadou Tangara, joined the online summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group, which was held on the initiative of the Azerbaijani President and Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ilham Aliyev in response to COVID-19 on the 4th of May 2020. The motto of the Summit was “United against COVID-19”.

Educational grant programmes have been established in the preparatory courses (in accordance with the language of instruction) and in the Bachelor’s, Master's, and Doctoral programmes, as well as on basic and residency levels of higher education for the citizens of OIC Member States (Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 3457 dated the 6th of December 2017) and for the citizens of the NAM Member States (Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 3567 dated the 10th of January 2018). According to the results of admission to the educational grant programmes for the academic years 2018-2019, a total of 40 citizens (14 people per programme) from 14 countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and 15 countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) were granted the right to study in higher education institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At present, Gambian citizens study in Azerbaijan as part of the educational grant programmes.
