The Republic of Djibouti
Bilateral diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Djibouti
Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Djibouti signed the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations on October 22, 1996.
In 2005, within the framework of the 59th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, met with the President of Djibouti, Mr. Ismail Omar Gelleh. During the meeting, the prospects for the development of bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation within the framework of international organizations were discussed.
On July 5, 2012, the Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Russian Federation was also appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan, with residence in Moscow. On May 2, 2016, by Order No. 2016, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan appointed Elman Abdullayev as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Djibouti.
On December 8, 2017, by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Nazli Abdulla Muhammad was appointed as honorary consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Djibouti.
The Republic of Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with the Republic of Djibouti with which the Republic of Azerbaijan is connected by religious and cultural roots. Both countries have a wide potential for the development of mutual relations in various fields. Azerbaijan and Djibouti regularly exchange letters between heads of state and government.
There is mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Djibouti within the framework of the UN, OIC, and other international organizations. On January 11, 2017, the National Assembly (parliament) of the Republic of Djibouti adopted a resolution on the Khojaly Genocide with an absolute majority at its plenary session.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the States
- On October 24-26, 2019, Djibouti President Ismail Omar Gelleh visited Azerbaijan to participate in the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- On November 15-17, 2012, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov visited Djubuti to participate at the 39th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Djibouti, the capital of the Republic of Djibouti.
- On February 24-26, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Djibouti, Mahmud Ali Yusuf, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.
- On April 5-6, 2018, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Djibouti Mahmoud Ali Hasan participated in the Interim Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku.
Inter-parliamentary relations
- On April 14, 2017, the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the decision No. N-620-VQR on the establishment of a working group on Azerbaijan-Djibouti inter-parliamentary relations.
- On September 20-21, 2018, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Djibouti, Mohamed Ali Humad, visited Azerbaijan in order to participate in the events held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
Contractual and legal framework
The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Djibouti signed four documents on cooperation in various areas.
