Since August 23, 2018, the Ambassador of the Republic of Benin to the Republic of Turkey has been accredited in Azerbaijan, with a residence in Ankara.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Benin are carried out mainly within the framework of the UN and OIC. Friendly and cooperative relations exist between Azerbaijan and Benin. The expansion of cooperation in various fields is important for the development of relations between the two countries.

Azerbaijan and Benin have good opportunities for cooperation in a number of sectors, including energy, education and agriculture.

On June 9–17, 2013, the International Development Assistance Agency (AIDA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, within the framework of a strategic partnership with the Islamic Development Bank, and as a part of the campaign "Fighting Preventable Vision Loss" realized in African countries, implemented humanitarian action in Cotonou, the capital of Benin.

Due to the harsh desert climate of Africa, constant air pollution, and a lack of ophthalmology specialists in health care, thousands of people with vision problems in Benin received free eye examinations. 315 people who had lost their vision were given the opportunity to regain their sight through free surgery. In addition, professional development trainings for local ophthalmologists were also organized.
