Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Mali

 

A protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries was signed on the 26th of November 1996. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of Morocco is also accredited to the Republic of Mali. On the 4th to the 6th of May 2017, the President of the Republic of Mali, H.E. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, visited our country to participate in the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku. On the 5th of May 2017, he was received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr Ilham Aliyev.

The President of the Republic of Mali, H.E. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, joined the online summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group, which was held on the initiative of the Azerbaijani President and Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ilham Aliyev in response to COVID-19 on the 4th of May 2020. The motto of the Summit was “United against COVID-19”.

As part of the “Alliance to Fight Avoidable Blindness” (AFAB) campaign in African countries, and guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (UN SDG 3), the Azerbaijan International Development Agency, AIDA, is co-sponsoring the campaign; in the first stage of the programme (2009-2016), over 300,000 people were examined for free, and above 56,000 people, who completely or partially lost their ability to see, restored their vision through cataract surgeries, and regained their health in Mali, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Djibouti, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Libya, Mozambique, and Niger. At the same time, further vocational trainings were held to improve the qualification of 177 local doctors.
