Bilateral relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Congo


Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Congo were established on March 19, 2018.


To participate in the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which was held in Baku on October 21-26, 2019, the delegation led by Jean-Claude Gakosso, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad of the Republic of Congo, paid a business trip to our country.


On February 7, 2023, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev received David Maduka's credentials as an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Congo to the Republic of Azerbaijan, residing in Moscow.


On March 27-29, 2024, a delegation of representatives of several state bodies of Azerbaijan paid a business trip to the Republic of Congo to examine the directions of potential cooperation between the two countries.


On March 3-7, 2024, a delegation led by the personal representative of the President of the Republic of Congo for strategic issues and international cooperation, Minister Mrs. François Joly visited Azerbaijan, within the framework of the visit, she held several meetings in the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SOCAR and other institutions.


On April 3-5, 2024, the President of the Republic of Congo, Mr. Denis Sassou-Nguesso, paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the visit, bilateral and extensive meetings were held with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and several documents were signed between the two countries. Within the framework of the visit, the President of the Republic of Congo, Mr. Denis Sassou-Nguesso, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ali Asadov, and the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova. By Order No. 75 dated 3 April 2024 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Sultan Hajiyev has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Congo, residing in Nairobi. On July 2, 2024, Sultan Hajiyev presented his letters of credence as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Congo, with his residence in Nairobi, to the President of the Republic of Congo, Mr. Denis Sassou- Nguesso.

 

On July 2-4, 2024, the delegation led by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President-designate of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, attended the first international conference on "Afforestation and Restoration" held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. During the trip, he was received by the President of this country, Mr. Denis Sassou-Nguesso, and meetings were held with other state officials.


The national holiday of the Republic of Congo is on August 15th each year, which is celebrated as the day of independence from the French colony.

  • “Memorandum of Understanding on Training between the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Oil Company of the Republic of Congo”, April 4, 2024, Baku;
  • “Agreement on Terms for Improvement and Expansion of the Congolaise de Raffinage oil refinery between the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan and National Oil Company of the Republic of Congo”, April 4, 2024, Baku;
  • “Protocol of Intent on Cooperation in the Field of Environment, Sustainable Natural Resource Management, and Climate Change between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Environment, Sustainable Development and the Congo Basin of the Republic of Congo”, April 4, 2024, Baku.
