Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Ghana
On September 11, 1992, the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Ghana was signed.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the Russian Federation is at the same time accredited to the Republic of Azerbaijan. On February 14, 2023, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to Azerbaijan, Oheneba Leslie Akua Akyaa Opoku-Ware.
Effective cooperation exists between Azerbaijan and Ghana within the framework of international organizations. Ghana's support during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement has been highly appreciated. There are wide opportunities for the development of political and economic cooperation between the two countries. Further collaboration is possible in areas such as education, agriculture and the mining industry.
About 10 students from Ghana have received higher educational grants in various educational institutions in Azerbaijan as part of the educational grants allocated by Azerbaijan to the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the States
- A delegation led by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, visited Azerbaijan as part of the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku on October 23-26, 2019.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- On April 4-6, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana Shirley Ayorkor Botchuei visited our country to participate in the ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement.
- On May 1-3, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Shirley Botchway, visited the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the 5th World Intercultural Dialogue Forum.
- On March 6, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, within the framework of his participation in the Fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries.
