Bilateral diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Burkina Faso
The Republic of Azerbaijan and Burkina Faso signed the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations on May 28, 2004.
The Embassy of Burkina Faso in Turkey also has accreditation in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Republic of Azerbaijan and Burkina Faso have friendly relations. Both countries have a capacity for the development of political, economic, trade, and investment spheres. Azerbaijan and Burkina Faso cooperate within the framework of the UN, NAM, and OIC.
The International Development Assistance Agency (AIDA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in close collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank, implemented several "fighting preventable vision loss" campaigns in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso:
- December 3–8, 2012: 454 people who lost their vision partially or completely regained their health as a result of performing surgical operations. In addition, during the campaign, professional trainings were organized for five ophthalmologists from Burkina Faso.
- May 4–10, 2013: In total, during this humanitarian action, more than 1,500 people underwent eye examinations free of charge, and 375 people had their sights restored as a result of eye surgical operations. In addition, professional development training was carried out for local ophthalmologists.
- December 2013: During these humanitarian actions, more than 2,700 people underwent eye examinations, and 455 people who lost their vision were treated free of charge and regained their health. In addition, professional development trainings for local ophthalmologists were also organized.
- May 2014: During the humanitarian action in Ouagadougou, 2,200 people with vision problems were examined free of charge, and 460 people underwent eye surgery. Their vision was restored, and they returned to a normal life.
