Bilateral diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia
On November 2, 1992, the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia was signed.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Ethiopia has been functioning since 2015.
The Embassy of Ethiopia in the Republic of Turkey is also accredited to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On December 20, 2017, the Honorary Consulate of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in the Republic of Azerbaijan started functioning. The honorary consul is Jeyhun Alakbarov.
There is a cooperation between the “ASAN Service” State Agency and the relevant institutions in Ethiopia. Representatives of the Public Service Commission of Ethiopia visited Azerbaijan in November 2023 in order to become acquainted with the activities of the "ASAN service" and to conduct negotiations in order to establish a similar model in this country. At the same time, the delegation of “ASAN Service” visited Ethiopia in December 2023 to continue negotiations.
Effective collaboration exists between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia within the framework of international organizations.
There is a political consultation mechanism between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia. In 2023, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ethiopia in Baku.
As of March 17, 2023, the "Association of Students Educated in Azerbaijan" has been established in Ethiopia.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- On November 8–10, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, paid an official visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia at the invitation of the Ethiopian side.
- On October 24-26, 2019, a delegation led by the State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Marcos Tekle, visited Azerbaijan within the framework of the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku.
- Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen Haasen, participated in the Summit Meeting of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement on the fight against COVID-19 held in Baku on March 2, 2023.
Inter-parliamentary relations
Azerbaijan-Ethiopia inter-parliamentary working group exists in Milli Majlis. There is an Ethiopia-Azerbaijan friendship group in the House of People's Representatives of Ethiopia (lower house).
- The Chairman of the House of People's Representatives of the Parliament of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abadula Gemeda Dagon, participated in the III Baku International Humanitarian Forum held on October 31–November 1, 2013.
