Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania

 

Diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on October 29, 1994.

 

By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 1984, dated February 22, 2007, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Morocco was appointed as the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, with his residence in the city of Rabat.

 

Since 2023, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria has been appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, with his residence in the city of Algiers.

 

The Republic of Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with Arab countries and to the expansion of cooperation in various fields, including the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, with which the Republic of Azerbaijan is connected by religious and cultural roots. There is cooperation between our countries on a bilateral basis and within the framework of international institutions. Both countries have a great potential for the development of mutual relations in various fields.

 

Mutual visits of the Heads of the States

- On July 15-17, 2010, the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Muhammad Ould Abdulaziz visited the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs

- On April 6-9, 2010, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mrs. Naha bint Muknass, paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

- Within the framework of the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku on October 24-26, 2019, a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania, Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed, visited Azerbaijan.

 

Inter-parliamentary relations

The Working Group for Azerbaijani-Mauritanian Inter-Parliamentary Relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

Contractual and legal framework

In total, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania have signed 9 documents on co-operation in various fields.
