Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Spain
The Kingdom of Spain recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 31st of December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 11th of February 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of Spain was established in Madrid on the 11th of March 2005.
A representative office of the Spanish Embassy in Baku was opened in Ankara on the 5th of May 2014.
On the 25th to the 27th of April 2016, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel García-Margallo, visited Azerbaijan to participate in the 7th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The Working Group for Azerbaijani-Spanish Inter-Parliamentary Relations consists of 18 people. The leader of the group is Sevil Mikayilova.
According to the current experience of the Spanish party, the Spanish-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Group operates as a working group. Until the 5th of March 2019, the head of the Spanish-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Working Group was Jose Maria Chikio (People's Party).

Products exported by Azerbaijan: crude oil, diesel fuel, kerosene fuel, turbojet engines, semiconductor carriers, ash and other residues containing mainly aluminium compounds, raw hides and nuts.
Products imported to Azerbaijan: crude soybean oil and its fractions, light vehicles, enamelled ceramic tiles for floors and walls.
