Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Moldova

The Republic of Moldova recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on the 21st of December 1991 (Almaty Declaration). Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 29th of May 1992.

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Moldova was opened on the 5th of October 2005. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened on the 1st of November 2005.

Currently, the relationship between Azerbaijan and Moldova is developing in various fields; high-level and casual visits are carried out in a reciprocal manner. Co-operation in the field of inter-parliamentary relations and legislation is also developing. The political stance of Azerbaijan and Moldova are either close or coincide within UN, CE, OSCE, BSEC, GUAM and other international and regional organisations, as well as within the CIS. The countries hold regular consultations in these organisations and traditionally support each other.

On the 21st to the 23rd of June 2017, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Igor Dodon, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

On the 15th to the 17th of March 2018, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Igor Dodon, was on a visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the 6th Global Baku Forum.

On the 14th to the 16th of March 2019, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Igor Dodon, visited Azerbaijan to participate in the 7th Global Baku Forum.

On the 12th to the 15th of December 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova paid a working visit to our country to attend the BSEC meeting in Baku.

In total, fifty-nine documents were signed between the two countries.

In total, 6 Moldovan companies have been registered in Azerbaijan, while 126 Azerbaijani companies have been registered in Moldova.

Goods exported from Azerbaijan to Moldova: plastic products, fruit juices, dyes, etc.

Goods imported from Moldova to Azerbaijan: medicines, glass containers, pumps, paper products, beef, etc.

Intergovernmental Joint Commission

Date of establishment: 25 October 2004. The commission has so far held three meetings.
