Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
Luxembourg recognized Azerbaijan's independence on 31 December 1991. The two countries established diplomatic relations on 1 June 1992.
Diplomatic representation of Luxembourg in Azerbaijan is carried out through the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In consular matters, Luxembourg is represented by the Belgian Embassy in Baku, and in visa matters by the French Embassy in Baku.
Azerbaijan attaches importance to its bilateral relations with Luxembourg and the bilateral ties involve political, economic and humanitarian areas.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the States
- Azərbaycan Respublikasının Prezidenti Heydər Əliyev Lüksemburqa 1 dəfə işgüzar səfər etmişdir.
- 2015-ci ildə Lüksemburqun Böyük Hersoqu Henri Beynəlxalq Olimpiya Komitəsinin üzvü qismində ilk Avropa Oyunlarının açılış mərasimində iştirak etmək üçün Azərbaycana işgüzar səfər etmişdir.
Mutual visits of the Prime Ministers
- On 22 June 1999, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizadə paid a working visit to Luxembourg.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has paid 4 visits to Luxembourg. The last visit took place on October 15, 2018, during which Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister met with his Luxembourgian counterpart.
- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, Lydie Polfer, visited Azerbaijan on July 15 – 16, 2002.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The working group on Azerbaijan-Luxembourg inter-parliamentary relations, comprising 6 parliamentarians, has been created in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The working group, which was founded on December 13, 2005, is headed by Shahin Ismayilov MP.
Due to small membership of the Parliament of Luxembourg, which currently comprises 60 members, its parliament do not pursue a policy of establishing inter-parliamentary working groups for any country.
