Economic cooperation
Azerbaijan and Italy are each other’s main trade partners, respectively in South Caucasus and EU. Azerbaijan accounts for approximately 95% of Italy's trade turnover with the South Caucasus, and Azerbaijan is the main importer of Italian products in the South Caucasus. For many years, Azerbaijan has been the largest supplier of crude oil to Italy. With the launch of the Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP), one of the segments of the Southern Gas Corridor, Azerbaijan has become a reliable partner in gas supply in Europe, and the third largest supplier of natural gas to Italy.
Azerbaijan and Italy have established The Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation. The last 5th session of the Intergovernmental Commission was held on January 14, 2020 in Rome. During the pandemic, the meetings were held virtually with the participation of the co-chairs of the intergovernmental commission.
