Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Croatia
Croatia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 28 December 1991. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 26 January 1995.
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Croatia was opened in February 2011.
The Embassy of Croatia in Azerbaijan was opened on 29 April 2019.
Azerbaijan and Croatia enjoy strategic partnership. The Zagreb Declaration on strategic partnership and friendly relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Croatia was signed on 11 March 2013.
Azerbaijan attaches importance to the development of relations with Croatia, and cooperation between the two countries covers political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the States
- President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has made three visits to the Republic of Croatia. The last visit was undertaken on 5-6 September 2018.
- President of the Republic of Croatia has paid three official visits to Azerbaijan. The last visit to Azerbaijan was made by the President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on 23-25 October 2016.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the Government
- Prime Ministers of Croatia have made two visits to Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Andrey Plenkovich paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on 6 November 2023.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has paid 3 official visits to the Republic of Croatia. The last visit was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov on 5-6 September 2023.
- Croatian Ministers of Foreign Affairs have made three official visits to Azerbaijan. The last visit was made by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Gordan Grlic Radman on 20 October 2021.
Inter-parliamentary relations
A working group on Azerbaijan-Croatia inter-parliamentary relations, headed by Konul Nurullayeva MP, has been established in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Maja Grba-Bujevic is the head of the Croatian-Azerbaijani Interparliamentary Friendship Group in the Croatian Parliament.
Contractual and legal framework
26 bilateral agreements have been signed between Azerbaijan and Croatia.
Economic cooperation
The Joint Commission for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation between the Governments of Azerbaijan and Croatia provides an important mechanism for the development of economic and commercial relations between the two countries. The Joint Commission was established in March 2013. The commission has held 3 meetings, and the last one took place on 13 March 2024 in Baku.
The Joint Commission is co-chaired by Adil Karimli, Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, and Damir Habijan, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Croatia.
