The Kingdom of Sweden
Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Sweden
The Kingdom of Sweden recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 16 January 1992. The two countries established diplomatic relations on 8 May 1992.
Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Sweden was established on 11 March 2005 and inaugurated in January 2008.
Swedish Embassy in Azerbaijan opened on 1 March 2014 on the level of charge d’affaires and subsequently elevated to ambassadorial level as of September 2020.
Azerbaijan attaches importance to its bilateral relations with Sweden and bilateral ties involve political, economic and humanitarian areas.

Inter-parliamentary relations
Mutual visits on the level of parliamentary speakers have not taken place.
Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan has set up the Azerbaijan – Sweden parliamentary working group, which is chaired by Kamila Aliyeva MP.
Contractual and legal framework
Azerbaijan and Sweden have signed 1 bilateral agreement.
Economic cooperation
26 Swedish companies are involved in trade and services sector in Azerbaijan.
