The Republic of North Macedonia
Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of North Macedonia
On 25 June 1995, North Macedonia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 28 June 1995.
In 2023, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Serbia Kamil Khasiyev was also appointed as Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to North Macedonia.
Currently, North Macedonia does not have an ambassador accredited to Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan attaches importance to the development of relations with North Macedonia, and cooperation between the two countries covers political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the States
- President of the Republic of North Macedonia Gheorge Ivanov paid working visits to Azerbaijan in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov paid a working visit to Skopje on 28-29 June 2007, and North Macedonian Foreign Minister, Buyar Osmani paid a working visit to Baku on 12 April 2023.
Inter-parliamentary relations
Working group on Azerbaijan-North Macedonia inter-parliamentary relations has been established in Milli Majlis. The parliamentary group is headed by Fazil Mustafa MP.
The inter-parliamentary friendship group in the Assembly of North Macedonia comprises 8 members and it is headed by Enes Ibrahim.
Contractual and legal framework
5 bilateral agreements have been signed between the two countries.
Economic cooperation
As of 01.01.2024, 5 North Macedonian commercial entities have been registered in Azerbaijan, 3 of them are currently active.
Agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments was signed on 19.04.2013 and is in force now.
Agreement on the elimination of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion with respect to taxes on income and property was signed on 19.04.2013, and entered into force on 12.08.2013.
