Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Ireland

 

The Republic of Ireland recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 1st of July 1996.

 

The Irish Republic does not have an embassy in Azerbaijan. The current Ambassador of Ireland in Türkiye, John McCullagh is also accredited to Azerbaijan.

 

Azerbaijan’s Embassy in the United Kingdom has also been accredited to Ireland.

 

Terry Leyden was appointed Azerbaijan’s honorary consul in Dublin on 13 March 2024.

 

Azerbaijan attaches importance to its bilateral relations with Ireland and the bilateral ties involve political, economic and humanitarian areas.

 

Inter-parliamentary relations

- On September 27-30, 2023 Chair of Parliament (Milli Majlis) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs Sahiba Gafarova paid a working visit to Ireland. While in Ireland, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova attended the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament and held meetings with Sean O Fearghail, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Irish Parliament.

 

The Working Group for Azerbaijan-Ireland Inter-Parliamentary Relations has been established in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The parliamentary group is chaired by Erkin Gadirli MP.

 

Economic cooperation

12 Irish companies in trade and services have been registered in Azerbaijan.
