Bilateral relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan were established on May 29, 1992. In 2007, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Tajikistan was opened. The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Republic of Azerbaijan has been operating since 2008.
Our relationship with the Republic of Tajikistan, one of the countries in the region, is of the utmost significance. The historical, cultural, and religious ties between the Azerbaijani and Tajik peoples, along with the political dialogue, based on mutual respect and admiration, established at the highest level, form the basis of relationship between the two countries. In recent years, the interstate relationships between the two countries have deepened in substance and elevated to the level of a strategic partnership.
Azerbaijan and Tajikistan engage in successful cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the States
- The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, made a state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan on April 5-6, 2023.
- The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, made a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan as a guest of honor at the Fifth Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State held in Dushanbe on September 14, 2023.
- The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Imomali Rahmon, made a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asian Countries-SPECA, which was held in Baku on November 24, 2023.
- The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Imomali Rahmon, made a state visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 22-23, 2024.
Mutual visits of the Heads of the Government
- Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, made a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan to participate in the "Dushanbe-2023" International Investment Forum held on September 28, 2023.
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, maid a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan to participate in the 9th Ministerial Conference "Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process" held on March 29-30, 2021.
- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, made a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan to participate in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS held on May 12-13, 2022.
- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, made a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the 27th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization held on October 9-10, 2023 in Shusha.
Inter-parliamentary relations
A working group on Azerbaijan-Tajikistan interparliamentary relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The head of the group is Aydin Mirzazade, its members are Novruzali Aslanov, Azer Badamov, Mader Musayev and Anatoliy Khaimovich Rafailov.
The Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan has two chambers. Both chambers have an interparliamentary friendship and cooperation group with the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Contractual and legal framework
88 documents have been signed. Important document:
- "Declaration on strategic partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan". Signed on May 23, 2024 in Baku.
Economic cooperation
According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 7, 2008, a joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan was established. Co-chairs of the commission:

From Tajikistan - Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zakizoda
Six meetings of the commission have been held so far. The last meeting was held on July 6-7, 2023 in Baku.

Compared to the corresponding period of 2022, the trade turnover with the Republic of Tajikistan increased by 2.98 percent in 2023, including export decreased by 13.90 percent, and import increased by 8.14 times.
In 2023, the share of the Republic of Tajikistan in the foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Azerbaijan was set as 0.01 percent (77th place), including 0.01 percent (88th place) in import, and 0.01 percent (51st place) in export.
