Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic

 

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan were established on January 19, 1993. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kyrgyz Republic was opened on October 11, 2007.

 

The historical, cultural, and religious commonalities between the Azerbaijani and Kazakh peoples form the foundation of the traditional friendship and brotherly relations between the two countries.

 

The relationship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic is characterized by a strategic partnership, and the Interstate Council functions between the two countries.

 

The active political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan at the highest level contributes to the continuous development of our mutually beneficial cooperation.

 

Bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan in political, economic, trade, investment, transport, communications, tourism, culture, and humanitarian spheres has a multifaceted nature. Cooperation within international and regional organizations, particularly the Organization of Turkic States, has broad prospects.

 

The secondary school to be built at the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic in the liberated village of Khidirli in Agdam is considered the most vivid embodiment of the bonds of brotherhood between our peoples.

 

Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan not only engage in a bilateral format but also collaborate effectively within regional and international organizations, showing mutual support and attentiveness to each other's national interests.

 

Mutual visits of the Heads of the States

 

- The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, made a state visit to the Kyrgyz Republic on October 11-12, 2022.

- The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, made a working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in order to participate in the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS held on October 12, 2023 in Bishkek.

- The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic on November 5-6, 2024.

- The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, made an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on April 19-20, 2022.

- The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadır Japarov, made a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan in order to participate in the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asian Countries-SPECA, which was held in Baku on November 24, 2023.

- The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, made a state visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on April 24-25, 2024.

- On July 5-6, 2024, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadir Japarov, made a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States held in Shusha.

- The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov paid a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on November 11-12, 2024.

 

Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs

 

- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, made a working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in order to participate at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS held on October 11, 2023 in Bishkek.

- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, made an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic on April 8-9, 2024.

- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ruslan Kazakbayev, made an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on July 2-4, 2021.

 

Inter-parliamentary relations

 

A working group on Azerbaijan-Kyrgyz inter-parliamentary relations functions in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The working group was established on December 13, 2005.

A friendship group on Kyrgyzstan-Azerbaijan cooperation functions in Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Economic cooperation

 

On April 23, 1997, in accordance with the Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres was established between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

 

The commission has convened five meetings so far. The fifth and final meeting was held in Cholpan-Ata on July 26, 2023.

Compared to 2022, the trade turnover with the Kyrgyz Republic increased by 6.01 times in 2023, including exports by 12.5 times, while imports decreased by 7.14 percent.

 

In 2023, the Kyrgyz Republic accounted for 0.13 percent of the foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ranking 42nd. This included a share of 0.03 percent in imports, placing it 69th, and 0.18 percent in exports, which positioned it 29th.
