Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of India were established on the 28th of February 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of India has been active since 2004. The Embassy of India in the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in October 1999. |

Mutual visits of the Vice Presidents

On October 24-26, 2019, Muppavarapu Naidu, India's 13th Vice President (who was also a Chairman of the upper house of Parliament, Rajya Sabha), paid a working visit to Azerbaijan. |
Mutual visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs
On May 2-5, 2013, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov paid an official visit to India.
On January 20-24, 1995, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India N. Vahra paid a working visit to Azerbaijan.
On June 23-25, 1998, Indian Foreign Minister V. Race paid a working visit to Azerbaijan.
On April 3-6, 2018, Indian Foreign Minister Mrs. S. Swaraj paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.
On October 22-26, 2019, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar paid a working visit to Azerbaijan.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The working group on Azerbaijan-India inter-parliamentary relations was established in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 5, 2000. Nagif Hamzayev has been the group's co-chairman since April 24, 2020. Members of the group: Jafarov Mushfig, Aliyeva Jala, Karimzade Parvin, Guliyev Rufat, Rustamkhanli Sabir, Seyidzade Sahin, Valiyeva Sadagat. In the Indian Parliament, the friendship group members have not been designated.
Contractual and legal framework
Twelve documents were signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of India.
