Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia until the 31st of December 1992) recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 8th of January 1992. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 29th of January 1993.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Czech Republic was established on the 15th of August 2007.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Republic of Azerbaijan was established on the 1st of December 2009.
As an indicator of the high level of Azerbaijani-Czech relations, there were official visits of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to the Czech Republic on the 4th to the 6th of April 2012, and of the President of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman, to Azerbaijan on the 15th to the 17th of September 2015.
One of the results of the dialogue between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic at various levels is the adoption of a resolution on the 12th of October 2011 by the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan's independence. The document emphasizes the unconditional recognition of the country's territorial integrity, state sovereignty and independence by the Czech Republic, our country’s strategic partnership with the Czech Republic, its important role in the energy supply to Europe, as well as active membership in NATO’s Partnership for Peace (PfP) and EU Eastern Partnership programmes.On the 7th of February 2013, the Foreign Relations Committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies unanimously adopted Resolution No. 219 condemning Armenia for the massacre of Khojaly residents.
The signing of the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic on the 15th of September 2015 in Baku during the official visit of Czech President Miloš Zeman to Azerbaijan was an important event in bilateral relations.
Inter-parliamentary relations:
The Working Group for Azerbaijani-Czech Inter-Parliamentary Relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The group has 28 members and is chaired by Elnur Allahverdiyev, a member of the parliament.
On the part of the Czech Parliament, there is the Working Group for Czech-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary relations (19 deputies). The group is chaired by Zdenek Ondracek.

The main exports from Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic are oil and oil products, and the main imports from the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan are machinery and equipment, electronic equipment, glass and chemicals.
Azerbaijan accounts for 85 per cent of the Czech Republic’s trade turnover with the South Caucasus. About 30% of the Czech Republic’s demand for oil products is met by Azerbaijani oil.
At present, 25 companies with Czech capital operate in Azerbaijan in the fields of services, communications, trade, construction, infrastructure and transport. Czech companies to invest US$ 2 billion in Azerbaijan were involved as contractors in many government projects.
Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Czech Republic was established in 2011. The last meeting was held on the 18th of January 2017 in Baku.
