Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Romania
Romania recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on the 11th of December 1991. Romania is the second country in the world to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan, and the first among the EU member states. Diplomatic relations were established on the 19th of June 1992.
The Embassy of Romania in Azerbaijan was established on the 3rd of November 1998, and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania on the 19th of May 2001.
On the 3rd to the 4th of March 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, paid a working visit to Romania.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The Working Group for Azerbaijani-Romanian Inter-Parliamentary Relations in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan consists of 8 people. The group is chaired by Azay Guliyev. The Romanian-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group was established in the Romanian parliament in May 2021. The group consists of 10 people, and is chaired by Mr Cristian-Daniel Ivănuţă
