Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Croatia

On the 28th of December 1991, Croatia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 26th of January 1995.

The strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Croatia is based on the Zagreb Declaration on Strategic Partnership and Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Croatia, which was signed on the 11th of March 2013.

There is also successful cooperation between our countries within international organisations and mutual support on important strategic issues.

The official visit of the President of Croatia, Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, to Azerbaijan in 2016 and the visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to Croatia in 2018 can be assessed as a new stage in relations between the two countries.

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Croatia was established by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated the 31st of October 2005, and the embassy began its activities in February 2011.

On the 24th of September 2019, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Azerbaijan was officially opened with its headquarters in Baku.

On the 23rd to the 25th of October 2016, the President of the Republic of Croatia, Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

On the 5th to the 6th of September 2018, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, paid an official visit to the Republic of Croatia

On the29th of April 2019, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Maria Pejčinović Burić, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

 

 

Inter-parliamentary relations
On the 5th of December 2000, a working group on inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Croatia was established in the Milli Majlis. The head of the working group on Azerbaijan-Croatia inter-parliamentary relations in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan is Mrs Konul Nurullayeva, a member of the Milli Majlis.

The Croatian-Azerbaijani Interparliamentary Friendship Group has been operating in the Croatian Parliament since 2008. Ljubica Maksimćuk is the head of the Croatian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary friendship group in the Croatian Parliament.

 

 

Contractual and legal framewwork
In total, twenty-five documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Croatia.

 

 

Economic co-operation

The Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Croatia was signed in Zagreb on the 11th of March 2013.
Products exported from Azerbaijan to Croatia: crude oil and jet fuel.  
Products exported from Croatia to Azerbaijan: medicines, transformer parts, various equipment, etc.  
More than 20 Croatian companies have been registered and operate in Azerbaijan in such areas as information technology, oil industry, energy, and railway infrastructure.
