Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Estonia

 

Republic of Azerbaijan recognized the independence of the Republic of Estonia on December 6, 1991. The Republic of Estonia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 20, 1992. Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on April 20, 1992.

 

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 30, 2009, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Estonia was established. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Estonia started its work at the end of 2010.

 

On 22 February 2005, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Türkiye was also accredited to the Republic of Azerbaijan. On 26 August 2014, diplomatic office of the Republic of Estonia in the Republic of Azerbaijan was inaugurated.

 

Azerbaijan attaches importance to its bilateral relations with Estonia and the bilateral ties involve political, economic and humanitarian areas.

- On 2 December 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Eva-Maria Liimets in the margins of the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the OSCE held in Stockholm.

- On 20 September 2022, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Estonian counterpart Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

 

Inter-parliamentary relations

- On June 5-6, 2006, Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov paid a working visit to Estonia.

- On 7 September 2021, Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan S. Gafarova met with the President of Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu)  Y.Ratas on the sidelines of 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Vienna.

- On February 6-8, 2022, Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan S. Gafarova paid an official visit to Estonia.

- President of the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu) Mr.Yuri Ratas led a parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan for an official visit on May 22-26, 2022.

 

Currently, Jala Ahmadova MP.heads the working group on Azerbaijan-Estonia inter-parliamentary relations.

Currently, Riina Solman MP heads the working group on Estonian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary relations.

 

Contractual and legal framework

22 documents have been signed between the two countries.

 

Economic cooperation

The Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Estonia was established in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 21, 2011. On June 28, 2012, the first session of the Intergovernmental Commission was convened in Baku. On September 29-30, 2014, the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was held in Tallinn. On April 7, 2017, the third meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was organized in Baku.
