Bilateral diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Canada
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Canada were established on the 10th of July 1992. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Canada was established in September 2004. The Embassy of Canada in the Republic of Türkiye is also accredited to Azerbaijan. Vasif Abutalibov is Azerbaijan’s Chargé d'Affaires in Canada. Jamal Khokhar, Canadian Ambassador to Türkiye, has also been accredited to Azerbaijan since October 2019. There is no Honorary Consulate of Azerbaijan in Canada.
No visits have been made at the level of presidents and / or vice presidents, as well as foreign ministers of the two countries.
The Working Group for the Azerbaijani-Canadian Inter-Parliamentary Relations has been established and active in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. There are 13 members of the Working Group, and the head of the group is Tural Ganjaliyev. There is the Canadian-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament, which consists of members of both chambers. The chair of the group is Philip Lawrence.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, four documents have been signed between the two countries. Two more draft documents are being reviewed.
