The Republic of Peru
Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Peru
The Republic of Peru recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on the 25th of June 1996, following which the diplomatic relations were established between our countries.
The diplomatic mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United Mexican States in Lima (Peru) was opened on the 1st of June 2015. The Embassy of the Republic of Peru in Azerbaijan was opened on the 1st of June 2017.
On the 4th of July 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, paid a working visit to the Republic of Peru.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The Working Group for the Azerbaijani-Peruvian Inter-Parliamentary Relations has been established and active in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The head of the Working Group is Sahib Aliyev.
The Peruvian-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group has been established and active in the Congress of the Republic of Peru since the 9th of November 2015.
Based on the appeal of the members of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Peruvian Congress, a decision was made on the Khojaly genocide and the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan (“Motion of the order”) on the 10th of June 2013.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, three documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Peru.
Economic co-operation
Economic and trade co-operation between Azerbaijan and Peru falls short of the existing potential of the two countries. In 2019, Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with Peru reached US$2189.43K, including the volumes of import (US$2179.25K) and export (US$10.18K), with the balance minus US$2169.07K.
The main products imported by the Republic of Azerbaijan from Peru are dried legumes, citrus fruits, pineapple, avocado, guava, mango and mangosteen or garcinia, grapes (fresh or dried), fresh apples, pears, quinces, frozen and canned (for short-term storage) fruits and nuts, clothing for men and women, macaroni products (paste goods), natural or artificial mineral water, carbonated water, ballpoint pens, cut flowers and buds, leaves, twigs and other nonflowering parts of plants.
The main products exported by the Republic of Azerbaijan to Peru are ferrous metal screws, bolts, nuts, hooks, rivets, dowels, splints, washer assembly (and other similar products), liquid pumps, liquid lifters, electric transformers, static electric converters, inductors and chokes.
