Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Chile
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Chile were established on the 3rd of November 1994.
The Diplomatic Mission of Azerbaijan in Chile was established on the 29th of November 2013. The Embassy of Chile in Azerbaijan has been operating since December 2018.
From the 18th to the 19th of March 2019, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, paid an official visit to the Republic of Chile. On the 26th of September 2019, as part of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, which was held from the 23rd to the 26th of September 2019, a meeting was held between then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, and then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile, Mr Teodoro Ribera.
Inter-Parliamentary Relations
The Working Group for the Azerbaijani-Chilean Inter-Parliamentary Relations operates in the Milli Majlis (National Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The group includes 5 deputies and is headed by MP Azer Jamal Badamov.
The Chilean-Azerbaijani Friendship Group operates in the Senate of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile. The group includes 6 senators and is headed by Senator Francisco Javier Chahuán.
The Chilean-Azerbaijani Friendship Group operates in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile. The group includes 17 deputies and is chaired by Gabriel Moisés Silber Romo.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, two documents were signed between the two countries.
Economic Co-operation
According to the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Chile reached US$3242.36 in 2018.
The dominant products imported from Chile to the Republic of Azerbaijan:
- Frozen fish species and fish products;
- Canned fruits;
- Chemical products.
The dominant products exported from the Republic of Azerbaijan to Chile:
- Carpets;
- Textile products;
- Mechanical devices and their spare parts
