Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States of America
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States of America were established on the 28th of February 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United States of America was opened in March 1992. The United States opened U.S. Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 1992.
The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles was established on the 9th of August 2005.
The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was on working visits to the United States of America on the 30th of March to the 1st of April 2016 and on the 17th to the 20th of September 2017, respectively.

Inter-parliamentary relations:
The Working Group on Azerbaijani-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The head of the Working Group is Samad Seyidov.
The U.S. Congress also has a working group on Azerbaijan (since the 24th of March 2004).
Steve Chabot (R-OH), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Robert Aderholt (R-AL) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) are the co-chairs of the Working Group on Azerbaijan.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, eighty six documents were signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States of America; this was coupled with the development of a relevant legal framework for large-scale cooperation.
Economic Co-operation
In 2020, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the United States of America reached US$660.8mm (Import: 635.9mm; Export: US$24.9mm).
Products exported from Azerbaijan: crude oil and other fuel products; natural fruit juices and jams; carpets and textiles; plants for the production of medicines and perfumes; wine varieties; chemicals; and radio and radar equipment. Products imported to Azerbaijan: civil aircraft and its engines / spare parts (47.1%); machinery, equipment and devices, as well as their spare parts (19.6%); pipes, tanks and related parts (3%); and other goods (30.2 %). Primary economic agreements (up to date): Trade Relations Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America (1993); Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States on Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investment (1997); Memorandum of Co-operation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America on the Establishment of the Azerbaijan-U.S. Economic Partnership Commission (2007).
Intergovernmental Joint Commission: The Azerbaijan-U.S. Economic Partnership Commission was established in 2007. The last meeting of the commission was held in May 2019 in Baku.
