Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federative Republic of Brazil
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federative Republic of Brazil were established on the 23rd of October 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Brazil was opened on the 9th of May 2012, and the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Azerbaijan was opened on the 22nd of June 2009.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Mr Aloysio Nunez, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan on the 15th of November 2017.
Inter-Parliamentary Relations
After our embassy was opened in Brazil, regular work had been carried out with the National Congress of Brazilian, and as a result, the Brazilian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary friendship group was established in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Brazil on the 4th of September 2013. The Chairman of the IPFG is Mr Claudio Cajado.
On the 8th of April 2014, another Brazilian-Azerbaijani friendship group was established in the Federal Senate of the National Congress of Brazil. The Chairman of this friendship group is Mr Cristovam Buarque. In 2012, a friendship group on Azerbaijani-Brazilian inter-parliamentary relations was launched in the Milli Majlis (National Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Chairman of this group is Asim Mollazadeh.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, six documents were signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Economic Co-operation
Trade turnover between the two countries reached US$85mm in 2020 (Export: US$6.6mm; Import: US$78.4mm).
