Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were established on the 2nd of October 1995.
In August 1996, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in July 1998.
The friendly relations between the two countries are based on common values and historical ties, as well as a number of joint statements and agreements signed during bilateral visits and meetings. “Agreement on friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed in Baku on the 27th of May 1996. “Declaration on further development of comprehensive cooperation and partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed in Tashkent in 1997. “The Declaration on Further Strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed in Tashkent on the 23rd of March 2004. “The Joint Statement of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed in Baku on the 12th of October 2012.
On 14-15 October 2019, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, attended the 7th Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) in Baku.
On 18-19 October 2016, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, paid a visit to Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek-Azerbaijani Friendship Society has been operating on the basis of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami since 2002. At present, the Uzbek-Azerbaijani Friendship Society is successfully operating. The Society operates under the Committee on International Relations and Friendship with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan and annually implements events and projects jointly with the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center under the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan. The chairman of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani Friendship Society is the rector of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami, Professor Shavkat Sharipov.
The Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev, operating under the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan, plays a special role in the development of co-operation between our countries in the fields of culture, science, education and tourism. The Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center was inaugurated on the 27th of September 2010 by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan (current President), Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
These centres operate in constant co-operation with the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Uzbekistan, and joint projects dedicated to friendship and cooperation between the two peoples are also being constantly being implemented.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, 133 documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Inter-parliamentary relations
Inter-parliamentary friendship groups operating in the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan contribute to the development of bilateral co-operation.

Main import products: red beans, dried grapes, soft wheat, peanuts, hydrogen chloride, raw silk, cloth, cars and buses.
Main export products: white sugar and sucrose, useful mixtures or finished products used as food made from animal and vegetable fats and oils, kerosene fuel for jet engines, varnishes and paints, polyethylene, automotive parts.
The Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation was established between the two countries in accordance with the Protocol on the Establishment of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation, which came into force on the 18th of June 1997.
