The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 30th of December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 24th of February 1992.
On the 20th to the 21st of May 2017, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, paid a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to attend the Arab-Islamic-American Summit in Riyadh.
On the 15th of March 2019, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received Prince Turki bin Faisal Al-Saud, Chairman of the Royal Faisal Research and Islamic Research Centre, who was participating in the 7th Global Forum.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud joined the online Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group, which was held on the initiative of the Azerbaijani President and Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Ilham Aliyev, in response to COVID-19 on the 4th of May 2020. The motto of the Summit was “United against COVID-19”.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The Working Group for Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia Inter-Parliamentary Relations has been established and operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The group is chaired by Mrs Yildirim Vidadi Fatma.
There is a Saudi-Azerbaijani friendship committee in the Consultative Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The chairman of the committee is Fayiz bin Abdullah Al-Shahri.
Contractual and legal framework
In total, 22 documents were signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on co-operation in various fields.

Products exported from Azerbaijan: kerosene for jet engines and gas oil for other purposes, digital calculators and metal furniture.
Products imported from Saudi Arabia: Polyethylene, calcium carbonate, nitrogen, titanium dioxide-based preparations, other chemicals and dates.
The Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Saudi Arabia established a Joint Commission for Cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, technology, culture, sports and youth on the 25th of April 2000.
