Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq
On the 2nd of January 1992, the Republic of Iraq recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq were established on the 30th of March 1992.
In 1992, the rank of the Iraqi diplomatic mission in Baku was raised from the rank of consulate general to the rank of embassy. In October 2016, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in Baghdad.
On the 18th of January 2017, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, met with the Head of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, as part of his participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos.
A delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Mohammad Ali Al-Hakim, visited Azerbaijan as part of the 18th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Baku on 24-26 October 2019.

On the 20th of May 2011, the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation was established between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Iraq.
