Bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Libya
Relationships between Azerbaijan and Libya entered a new phase after Azerbaijan gained its independence in 1991; on the 30th of December 1991, Libya recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Libya were established on the 16th of March 1992. On the 5th of April 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Libya, Mr Mohammad Taha Siala, within the framework of the Mid-term Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Baku.
Inter-parliamentary relations
The Working Group for Azerbaijani-Libyan Inter-Parliamentary Relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The group is chaired by Ibrahimli Fazail Feyruz.

On the 19th of November 2008, a joint commission was established between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
