Canada
Canada recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan in December, 1991. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Canada were established in August, 1992. The Embassy of Canada to Türkiye, in Ankara, is also accredited to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan opened its Embassy in Canada, Ottawa in Spetember, 2004. At present, Azerbaijan is represented by a Chargé d'Affaires.
Relations between the countries have been developed since 1992 across various fields including economic, cultural, medical, and scientific sectors.
No high-level mutual visit took place between the two countries.
There are opportunities to further enhance relations between the states by leveraging existing economic potential.

No presidential visits have taken place.
Inter-parliamentary relations
A working group on Azerbaijan-Canada inter-parliamentary relations was established in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2000. The group includes 11 members. The group doesn’t have a chair, at present.
In November 2006, the Canada-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group was established in the Canadian Parliament. In October 2023, Philip Lawrence, the head of the Canada-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, resigned following anti-terrorist operations of Azerbaijan in September. In response, Tural Ganjaliyev, the head of the working group on Azerbaijan-Canada inter-parliamentary relations, also stepped down from his position.

Economic cooperation
At present, 80 Canadian commercial entities are registered in Azerbaijan.
In 2024, the volume of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Canada was 163.5 mln US dollars (the volume of export - 162.4 mln US dollars, the volume of import - 1 mln US dollars)
Azerbaijan’s export commodities: crude oil, aluminum, fruit juices etc.
Azerbaijan’s import commodities: mineral fuel, oils, fish, coffee, plastic products etc.
