Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with the special representative of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt on Egypt’s non-permanent membership to the UN Security Council
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Mohammad Alahaddin Ali Shouki-Hadid, special representative of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt on Egypt’s non-permanent membership to the UN Security Council.
Mohammad Alahaddin Ali Shouki-Hadid asked to convey the warmest greetings and best wishes by H.E Mr. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt, to H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Sides expressed their satisfaction on development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Egypt and underlined that there is a need to strength mutual efforts in development of cooperation in the field of economy-trade and tourism.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that cooperation and mutual support within international organizations between Azerbaijan and Egypt is yet another incarnation of traditionally friendship ties of two countries.
Ambassador Mohammad Alahaddin Ali Shouki-Hadid reiterated that Egypt supports territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and seconds peaceful settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict based on norms and principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Ambassador also added that fighting against terrorism and its ideological aspects will be one of the priorities, in case of election of Egypt to the UN Security Council’s non-permanent membership. He touched that Egypt proudly owns traditional and moderate Islamic culture in the face of Al-Azhar.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov thanked Egypt for its support on Azerbaijan’s fair stance on Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict based on norms and principles of international law. Minister added that attempts of altering the internationally recognized borders of States are unacceptable. Elmar Mammadyarov mentioned that Armenia doesn’t refrain to put religious tinges to the conflict to conceal its policy of occupation and aggression against Azerbaijan. In this regard, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov highlighted that Azerbaijan is proud of its exemplary model of multiculturalism, intercultural and interreligious dialogue. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister stressed the importance of joint efforts of Egypt and Azerbaijan against Islamophobic tendencies owing to their moderate Islamic culture.
Elmar Mammadyarov told that, as a country suffering from terrorism, fighting against terrorism was on high importance in the agenda of Azerbaijan during its non-permanent membership to the UN’s Security Council. Furthermore, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed the guest about over 30 terrorist attacks by Armenia at transport infrastructures and other public venues in Azerbaijan which resulted in killing of thousands of innocent civilians.
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov recalled the fact that Azerbaijan was initiator of the first ever joint session of the UN Security Council and Organization of Islamic Cooperation and pointed the importance of continuation of that mechanism.
At the end, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov wished all success to Egypt for the upcoming elections to the UN Security Council.
