Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation headed by David Wolpe, Rabbi of Sinai synagogue in Los-Angeles
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noting that various religious confessions have historically lived in peace in Azerbaijan stressed the existence of Jewish community for centuries in our country.
Speaking about exemplary multiculturalism and tolerance traditions of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov underlined that our country pursues a consistent policy and hosts high-level events in order to promote an intercultural and interreligious dialogue at the global level based upon the national experiences.
Informing the guests about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and its consequences, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov talked about the policy of ethnic and religious intolerance, racial discrimination and ethnic hatred pursued by Armenia against Azerbaijan at state level. He noted that as a result of this policy, more than one million Azerbaijanis were subjected to brutal ethnic cleansing in their historical lands in Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
He stressed once again that Armenia has to put end to the occupation against Azerbaijan and Armenian armed forces have to be withdrawn from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Expressing their satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, the guests talked about their visits to Baku, Guba and Red Settlement, where they got acquainted with the care provided for the local Jewish community at the state level and stressed being witnesses of Azerbaijan's economic and social development covering not only the capital and also the regions.
Drawing the attention to the culture of high tolerance of Azerbaijani people, they highlighted the special role of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the further development of these traditions as part of the state policy.
During the meeting Minister Elmar Mammadyarov answered the guests’ questions on Azerbaijan-US relations, regional and global issues.
