No:545/22, Press release on summoning the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Foreign Ministry
On December 1, 2022, Julien Le Lan, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a strong protest was expressed to him regarding the false and slanderous resolution adopted against Azerbaijan in the lower house of the French Parliament (National Assembly) on November 30, 2022.
At the meeting, it was noted that this resolution, adopted in the National Assembly, like the resolution adopted in the Senate some time ago, is another provocation by France against Azerbaijan.
Each of the claims reflected in this resolution, which contains the biased and one-sided position of France towards our country, and which is contrary to international law, has been answered coherently.
It was brought to the attention that this resolution, like several other steps taken by France, is an attempt to inflict a serious blow on the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the efforts to establish peace and stability in the region.
It was emphasized that the statements made by the representative of the French government in the hearings on the resolution clearly demonstrated that the French government was behind that resolution and that this country is unable to act as a fair and neutral mediator.
At the meeting, it was stated that the resolution is firmly rejected by Azerbaijan, and it was once again strongly demanded to refrain from steps and statements against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan protected by international law, and from interfering in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs.
The Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of France noted that this resolution adopted in the National Assembly, like the resolution adopted in the Senate some time ago, does not reflect the official position of the French government, and that the government supports negotiations on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He added that the position of Azerbaijan will be delivered accordingly.
