No:517/22, Press release on summoning the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Foreign Ministry
On November 16, 2022, Julian Le Lan, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and handed a note of protest over the recent anti-Azerbaijan resolution passed by the French Senate on November 15, 2022.
At the meeting, it was brought to the attention that Azerbaijan strongly rejected the resolution adopted by the French Senate, which is completely far from the truth, reflects false and slanderous provisions.
It was stated that this provocative resolution adopted by the Senate demonstrates the biased and one-sided political position of France which allegedly intends to contribute to the peace process.
It was emphasized that this step of France aims to inflict a serious blow on the establishment of peace in the region, especially the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, based on mutual recognition and respect for each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, which Azerbaijan insists on, and encourages revanchist forces that are against peace in the region.
It was noted that the mentioned resolution, alongside grossly violating norms and principles of international law, completely contradicts the obligations especially under Article 2, Paragraph 3 of the Agreement on friendship, mutual understanding, and cooperation between Azerbaijan and France (1993).
At the meeting, Azerbaijan once again strongly demanded France to refrain from steps and statements against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan protected by international law, and from interfering in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs.
French Chargé d'Affaires noted that the appeal of Azerbaijan will be delivered accordingly.
