05 December 2024 14:01

On 5 December 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Elina Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, within the framework of his participation in the 31st meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council.

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Finland, issues arising from Finland’s Chairmanship of the OSCE next year, as well as the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed the historic agreements achieved in the field of combating climate change during our COP29 Presidency, and the efforts of our country in the direction of advancing the climate action agenda.

The other side was also informed in detail about the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, combating the mine threat, as well as the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization agenda. It was stated that despite the fact that many provisions of the peace agreement have already been agreed, as well as the existence of progress on the delimitation of borders, the continuation of territorial claims against our country in the Constitution of Armenia and other legislative acts hinders the process.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also wished Finland success during its Chairmanship of the OSCE in the coming year and noted that we are always ready to support efforts in the direction of increasing the functionality and effectiveness of the Organization. In this regard, the importance of abolishing the institutions of the OSCE that are remnants of the former Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict, especially in terms of their having already lost relevance, was noted in the direction of the effectiveness of the activities of the Organization.

At the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other regional topics of mutual interest.
