No:374/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Baiba Braže, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia

On 25 September 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Baiba Braže, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, within the framework of his participation in the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

 

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries on existing political, economic, regional security, interparliamentary relations and humanitarian matters, as well as preparatory works within the framework of Azerbaijan's Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as regional and international security issues.

 

Satisfaction was expressed with the level of development of the existing strategic partnership relations between the two countries in political, economic, trade, humanitarian and other aspects, and the importance of continuing and developing cooperation in this dynamic in other directions, including infrastructure, transport and energy security, was emphasized.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side in detail about the COP29 Presidency activities, goals, and priorities of Azerbaijan, 14 main initiatives put forward within this framework and the works carried out to ensure their practical implementation. It was noted that our Presidency, aimed at attracting financial resources to efforts to combat climate change, has put forward the initiative to establish the Climate Finance Action Fund in this direction.

 

It was underlined that Azerbaijan has built the COP29 Presidency process on the basis of inclusiveness and, in this regard, intends to involve all interested sides in the process.

 

The other side was also informed about the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the ongoing bilateral negotiation process, the progress achieved, as well as the legislative acts of Armenia standing in the way of the signing of the peace treaty, particularly the continuing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in its Constitution.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other regional and international security issues of mutual interest.
