No:366/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency

On 24 September 2024, within the framework of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IAEA and conducted an exchange of views on current joint projects and future prospects.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to protecting and further strengthening nuclear security and, in this regard, supports efforts towards expanding international cooperation.
It was noted that the IAEA plays a key role in the development of nuclear security rules and standards, and the important role of the IAEA in nuclear security and the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes was also emphasized.
The practical importance of the IAEA’s technical cooperation activities, particularly the relations between Azerbaijan and the Agency in the fields of agriculture, medicine, petrochemicals and the environment in recent years, was noted.
During the meeting, cooperation opportunities within the framework of Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change were reviewed.
At the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
At the same time, a signing ceremony of the “Country Programme Framework” for 2024–2029, envisaging technical cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan, was organized between the sides.
