On 23 September 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Alicia Bárcena, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, within the framework of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Mexico, prospects for the development of cooperation, including issues arising from the preparatory works for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), were discussed.
The sides emphasized the importance of increasing mutual contacts in the direction of expanding cooperation between our countries.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking in detail about the preparatory works for the organization of the session within the framework of Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, the main and side events to be held in this direction, as well as the negotiation process being conducted, stated that during the COP29 Presidency, Azerbaijan intends to develop cooperation with Mexico as well in the field of combating climate change.
It was stressed that Azerbaijan, traditionally known as a country rich in hydrocarbon resources, is determined to advance the “green energy” agenda, as well as intends to work jointly with a number of international partners in this direction.
At the meeting, an exchange of views also took place on other issues of mutual interest.
