On September 24, in the framework of the ongoing 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), during the general discussions under the item 4 of the Council's agenda (situations that require the attention of the HRC), a joint statement initiated by Azerbaijan and co-authored by 26 UN member states from different regions of the world was made on the impact of landmines on human rights.

Made for the first time in the framework of HRC, the statement addresses the negative impact of anti-personnel mines on human rights, including the right to life, health, safety and socio-economic rights, and calls on states to cooperate in the field of demining, as well as to exchange experiences and information.

The statement also called on the United Nations, its Specialized Agencies and other states to support mine-affected countries.
