No:332/24, Press release on the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Zakia Ighil

On 12 September 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Algeria to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Zakia Ighil.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects for the development of the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Algeria, as well as regional and global issues.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov warmly congratulated Ambassador Zakia Ighil on her appointment and wished her success in her diplomatic activities.
Noting that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that mutual visits and intensive political dialogue have played a significant role in the development of cooperation over these years. It was highlighted that there are prospects for expanding cooperation in a number of areas, including economy, trade, energy security, humanitarian fields, and others, and the importance of utilizing the mechanism of political consultations to discuss these opportunities was underlined.
The importance of continuing mutual support and cooperation within regional and international organizations, particularly the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, was noted.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided the other side with detailed information on the situation in the region following the 44-day Patriotic War, the realities and challenges of the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Gratitude was expressed to the Algerian side for its support for the norms and principles of international law, particularly the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, both during the former conflict and in the post-conflict period.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
