No:322/24, Press release on the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the First Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Leonid Anfimov

On 2 September 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the delegation led by the First Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Leonid Anfimov, who is on a visit to our country to observe the early elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as issues arising from the elections.
The Minister emphasized that the parliamentary elections held on 1 September following the restoration of sovereignty in Azerbaijan constitute an important historical and political event, and provided information on the measures taken to ensure that the elections were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, including the steps taken to ensure the participation of international observers in this process.
The First Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Leonid Anfimov, noted that, as in the presidential elections, these parliamentary elections are of great importance for the people of Azerbaijan, and that the elections organized in accordance with the legislation of Azerbaijan and international commitments were conducted in a free and transparent manner. Providing information on the activities of the Commonwealth of Independent States observation mission in connection with the elections, the representative noted that the parliamentary elections are the 12th elections observed by the organization in Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the Commonwealth of Independent States mission, consisting of 133 members, is the second largest mission, and that numerous observers represented therein witnessed the successful organization of the elections throughout the country, including in the territories liberated from occupation, and extended congratulations to our country in this regard.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
