No:320/25, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov to the Kingdom of Cambodia

On 21 July 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, paid a visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

 

During the visit, the 4th round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Cambodia was held, co-chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, and the Secretary of State (Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Khuon Phon Rattanak.

 

During the meeting, discussions were held on the current state of relations between the two countries, as well as prospects for expanding and developing cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, and other fields.

 

Deputy Minister E. Mammadov provided detailed information to the other side on the current situation in the region, the mine clearance process in the liberated territories, as well as ongoing reconstruction and restoration efforts.

 

The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, of which Cambodia is a member.

 

On 22 July 2025, during a meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, Huot Hak, the sides emphasized that both countries possess significant tourism potential and highlighted the importance of developing mutual cooperation in the tourism sector. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia was signed.

 

Within the framework of the visit, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation also held meetings with the Vice President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Vong Soth, the Director of the Cambodian Diplomatic Academy (NIDIR) and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khy Sovanratana, as well as the Executive Director of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC), Ms. But Rotna, and gave interviews to local media outlets.

 

As part of the visit, a meeting was held with Cambodian citizens who studied in Baku in the 1980s–1990s. It was noted that the proposal to establish an Azerbaijan–Cambodia Friendship Association with their participation was supported by the Cambodian side.

 

At the end of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met with leading Cambodian media outlets and answered questions regarding the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan–Cambodia relations.
