06 July 2024 00:01

On 5 July 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, on the sidelines of the Informal Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), as well as the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OTS held in the city of Shusha.

During the meeting, issues arising from the existing allied relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, cooperation within multilateral formats, as well as regional and international security matters were discussed.

It was emphasized that mutual activities, joint projects, and the progress achieved within the political, security, economic, energy, connectivity, and humanitarian aspects of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye alliance make significant contributions to regional stability and cooperation.

It was noted that the high-level political dialogue between the leaders of the two countries plays a key role in the development of our alliance, and that intensive visits and contacts between relevant state institutions and legislative bodies also make a substantial contribution.

Satisfaction was expressed that the city of Shusha, where the Shusha Declaration, which enshrines the allied relations based on brotherhood, friendship, and solidarity between the two countries, was signed, is hosting the Informal Summit of the OTS.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the significant place of the Turkic world and the OTS direction in our foreign policy and expressed hope that the Summit would be remembered for the adoption of documents and decisions that will contribute to the development and strengthening of cooperation within the Organization.

In addition to the OTS, the importance of intensifying cooperation within other regional and international organizations, including various multilateral formats, was noted. In this regard, it was stated that the trilateral meetings of the leaders of Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Pakistan on 3 July this year, as well as the meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Georgia on 15 March, were useful in coordinating joint activities on regional and global security and cooperation issues.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided detailed information to the other side on the current regional situation in the post-conflict period, large-scale reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the liberated territories, activities to combat the mine threat, as well as the status of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

It was noted that challenges facing the peace process still persist, including ongoing claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country reflected in the Constitution of Armenia, as well as steps by third states contributing to the militarization of Armenia and posing a threat to regional stability.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
