On 24 May 2024, a telephone conversation was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annalena Baerbock.

 

During the telephone conversation, the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–Germany bilateral relations, the situation in the region, as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.

 

The other side was provided with detailed information on the meeting that took place between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the city of Almaty on 10–11 May. In general, issues where differences of opinion exist within the framework of the peace process were reviewed, and the necessity of continuing negotiations was emphasized.

 

The agreements reached recently between Azerbaijan and Armenia and confidence-building measures, particularly the return of 4 villages belonging to Azerbaijan and the delimitation of a part of the border based on the agreement reached by the delimitation commissions, were noted as significant measures within the framework of the peace process.

 

During the telephone conversation, within the framework of Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the importance of the event co-chaired by Azerbaijan and Germany in the “Petersberg Climate Dialogue” format was emphasized, and it was noted that cooperation between the two countries within the framework of COP29 remains important.

 

Subsequently, an exchange of views was conducted on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
